A Tom and Carol story.

The Race

by Thomas Bowling

Tom and Carol were at the grocery store. Tom had gotten ahead of Carol and when he looked back she was caught in a crowd of shoppers and carts. As Carol maneuvered her way through the traffic, naturally Tom saw more than anyone else.

“And they're coming around the bend. Carol is making her way to the outside. Now she's hugging the rail. Carol flies past Pretty Blonde. It's Carol and Brunetteâ?? Girl, neck and neck coming down the back stretch. I don't think I've ever seen two fillies doing this much necking.”

“Stop it,” Carol said. “People are laughing.”

But Tom was on a roll.

“Carol is running along the rail. She goes to the whip. She's hitting Tom with it. It's Carol on the back stretch. Carol on the back stretch Carol on the back stretch by a nose. Carol on the back stretch by a nose. Carol sees the wine aisle and pulls up. She sees a nice Chardonnay and stops.”

“The fillies cross the wire. It's By a Nose by a length and a half. On the Back Stretch finishes second and in third place is Nice Chardonnay. Carol is still in the wine aisle."

Carol just hit me with the whip again.

"Ouch, that hurts."
