A chapter in the book A Month of Madness

A poem, a verse, a rhyme

by CD Richards

One hundred and sixty five long years ago,
a momentous occasion transpired.
"What kind of event could cause such a fuss?"
they questioned, they asked, they enquired.

A magnificent day that gave to us all
that which would make our lives brighter;
a godsend to all those who value their words—
each author, each scribe and each writer.

Something without which we'd all be so lost,
we'd weep, and we'd cry, and we'd wail.
We'd never complete, though try as we might,
our story, our feature, our tale.

So let's give a shout, and recharge our glass;
we'll all sing with cheer in our voice.
Let's kick up our heels, and let down our hair,
and celebrate, party, rejoice.

For seldom's been seen, observed or espied
an event so vast, huge and enormous
as was witnessed back then, and won't be again—
the completion of Roget's Thesaurus!
