A Haibun
The Road Less Traveled
by June Sargent
Growing up I was always the shy, studious one -- the bookworm. But deep down there was an adventurousness that took people by surprise when I did something spontaneous and unexpected. My mom would wonder where this streak came from? I wondered myself. Well, after watching shows like "Who Do You Think You Are?" -- I decided to have my DNA tested. I am 10% Polynesian! My ancestors were sea-faring Samoans who traveled the length of the Pacific. And apparently that is where I got my sense of adventure -- which led me to explore the world of poetry on Fanstory.
