A story about a learning day

A chapter in the book Acrostics

by Oatmeal

Preston was a seven year old boy
full of energy and fun.
His biggest faults were
that his pranks were never done.

His family wondered where he was
Was he taken by a stranger?
His father would say that
Times like these caused danger.

In class he was the one
teachers knew patience was a must.
Many times he made people feel
that with him they couldn't trust.

One day he fell asleep
in a ditch by a side road.
His father couldn't find him
They called the 911 code.

Had something bad happened
to his only son?
The police gathered the
search had just begun.

His family couldn't take it.
Their heads were full of fears.
His father was strong and proud
but his eyes were filled with tears.

The town all felt saddness
deep inside their heart.
Nobody saw him,
where could they start?

If Preston was playing a prank.
This would make them very mad.
This kind of joke went too far
Made too many feel very sad.

It was his family that hurt the most.
They went through so much pain.
How could somebody benefit from this?
What could anyone have to gain?

Finally at the end of the day
He headed home from the sea
Preston strolled on home
he had a skinned up knee.

First his mother saw him
She thought, "Never again"
She grabbed him and hugged him
She asked, "Where have you been?"

He didn't know what she meant.
"What's the big deal?" he said
"Am I home a little late?"
"Did I miss a meal?"

"In the future let us know
something about your plan,
we know that you are becoming
an adventurous young man."

Everyone answers to someone
no matter how old they are.
You must tell somebody
whenever you leave in your car.

Trust somebody, your mom,
or some day your wife.
Always be responsible
make it a way of life.

Safety always comes first,
it must be #1
It will not take away
or hurt what could be a lot of fun.
