A chapter in the book My Reminders of LIfe 3

He Doesn't Give Up

by Barb Hensongispsaca

I was so close, 'twas almost time.
So tired of life that never rhymed.
When nothing ever went my way
then I just lived from day to day.

I could not laugh or smile at all,
I had to live for master's call.
The beatings came when e'er he chose,
no earthly reason did I pose.

He broke some bones, he blacked my eyes.
There was no one to hear my cries.
When he got drunk, he loved to hit;
my faith stood strong during his fits.

But then one day I'd had enough.
I hurt so bad, he'd been so rough.
I took the gun, held to my head,
all would be better with me dead.

I prayed, "Dear Lord, I can't go on.
Please take my life, I'm not a pawn.
Please lead me where You bid me go,
or end it now, I need You so,"

I pulled the trigger, nothing blew.
The safety off, of this I knew.
Though every hole, a bullet filled,
the air around was gently stilled.

Again I tried to no avail.
It would not fire, it seemed to fail.
I went outside to shoot the sky,
six times it fired. 'Tis not a lie.

I thank my Lord, express my love,
my gratitude to Him above.
I'm here to see my children grow,
not give them tears and lives of woe.

It was not easy, no mistake.
He kept His word, He's not a fake.
I'm here to say, you must go on...
from each bad night there comes the dawn.

Thank you Raoul D'Harmental for permission to use your picture.

This story is true, every word of it. I felt I could not go on and that the gun was my only way out. Fully loaded, safety off, it did not fire till I took it outside and pointed it to the sky. It fired six perfect shots. My gratitude to Him for giving me my life and being there to help me survive what the world gave...
