Chief Joseph

May God bless Chief Joseph.
What a magnificent and understanding man was he
Hin-mah-too-yah-lat-kekt of the plains
Buckskin wearer
his destined fate, his name explains
"Thunder Rolling Through The Mountains"
Duty bearer

His people kept their word
regardless of the pale man's endless lies deceiving
treaties gain what white aspires
So unfit
stolen lands it acquires
for the greatest race of liars
I admit

May God ease his misery
having suffered horrors with his people at Wounded Knee
a wish to return home did he proffer
- on some morrow -
the congress he did bother
to be buried with his father
son of sorrow

"From where the sun now stands,
I will fight not more forever," in his grief he once affirmed
gazed no more on that Wallowa Valley scene
a travesty
But when he stands in Heaven's gleam
nigh but all that will be seen -
- is majesty!
