Loop Poem - Potlatch Practice

The Stray

by damommy

Day and night, he walks the streets
Forgotten, unwanted, alone

The stray is searching for a place
safe and warm, a friendly face

it’s love he craves
craves kindness
kindness shown him
for just one moment

Hunger and fear walk along,
purring’s his solitary
song

Glistening eyes shine in the dark
A creature moves, he leaves his mark

Mincing ‘round on ragged feet
Searching for a genial meet

He feels the toll of time
Time is running out
Left, abandoned, forsaken
Cold, hungry, frightened

Once, a home, beloved pet
There’s no hope left for him, and yet . . .

Loop Poem -
It shows 2 couplets [the 4 lines] that RHYME. After those 2 couplets, there are 4 shorter lines that do NOT rhyme. Then all of this repeats as desired in this format. The length isn't stipulated. The last word of the first line becomes the first word of the next line and so on. But the couplets do not have to follow this pattern , only the 4 line stanzas. So, couplets rhyme, but the 4 line stanzas do not have too UNLESS one desires for them to rhyme. To get the full effect of the ?loop? style, I believe the length needs to be at least like the example provided. Otherwise the loop is lost

Couplets mixed with 4 line stanzas, the last word, first word scheme is maintained in the stanzas. It can also be used in the couplets. Rhyme scheme is ab, cc, defg, hh, ii, jklm, nn, oo. [be sure & read about the variation for the practice/potlatch]

I hope I did it right.
