Small Boy in Big City

by writerwish

Two small boys see each other after a long weekend apart.

"I called for ya yesterday. Where were ya?"
"Me and my Mom went to the big city?"
"Ya mean the really big city?"
"Yup, the really, really, really big city. There's millions and billions of grown-ups walkin and bumpin into each other."
"Were ya scared?"
"Nah. Ya know what else? There's so many cars that they didn't even fit on the road."
"Really? Did you see 'em crash?"
"No, 'cause there was a weird crossing guard standing in the middle of the road. He was blowin' a whistle and waving his hands like a crazy man. I think he was tellin' the cars where to go. I didn't get it 'cause there were no kids going to school."
"Why was he there?"
"Cause' it's his job".
"His job? I wouldn't want that job. Would you?"
"No way. He could get runned over."
"Mom says, everybody listens to him."
"Why?"
"Just 'cause he has a medal on".
"Ya mean like a cop?"
"Yeah, and he gives people tickets if they don't listen to him."
"What kind of tickets"?
"The bad kind. Tickets to jail."
"He must be brave, right?"
"Probly. Do ya think when we get bigger, we'll get braver too?"
"Probly."

Through the eyes of a child writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a short story (100-500 words). The story must include a child's perspective of an object or situation. The story may be told from the viewpoint of the child, or an adult.

Hope I have all the punctuation right, let me know. The spelling is how it should be because of the dialect of little kids. Thanks for reviewing.
