Despite the rain smell in the air, she watered the flowers.
The children were in the car - their favorite toys beside them - suitcases packed ready for the adventure mother promised.
Without her the flowers would die. If she stayed, she would die.
The bruise on her cheek ached.
She started the car.
This time she wouldn't come back.
