Ethereal Morning

I woke up tired, and misty eyed,
when in the mirror, I had spied,
my misty look, was staring wide.

Down the steps, and towards the door,
no one walked, across the floor,
to meet or greet, just to ignore.

Outside the building, down the hills,
winds blew on me, but hairs were still,
nor could I feel, its warmth or chills.

No cabs did stop, or even slow,
to pick me up; I had to know,
I really had no place to go.

I didn't smell, the city smog,
I couldn't hear, the barking dog,
I felt just like, the melting fog.

Back to my studio, I did tread,
and saw myself, upon my bed,
and knew at once - I woke up dead.
