Country Style That Is
We Like Doing It
by country ranch writer
Have you ever been on a ranch where there has been a round up for the visitors? Well, let me tell you one, it is a big deal in western states. Texas being one of the places at the top of the list every year, second being Wyoming.
Tiny is our head cook down here on the ranch. He is seven feet tall, has dark brown hair and a mustache and weighs in at 260 lbs. He is in charge of the barbecue pit and making sure everything gets done in time for the meal. Potato salad, Macaroni salad, corn on the cob,and beer or whiskey. Ribs so delicious they fall right off the bone, collard greens and corn bread, with real butter to slather on them, pies and cakes for desert. Everything is homemade here. Tiny even makes his own barbecue sauce and you can buy some to take home
We all have a hand in making salads and pies.
Some Recipes are ; Potato salad, with pickles, onions, eggs, touch of mustard and mayo to finish it up. Homemade Baked beans with mustard and ketchup mixed in and place maple bacon on top, and a touch of honey mustard bbq sauce slow cooked in Dutch oven. So delicious.
Apple pie made with Granny Snith apples, cored and cut up into slices, with cinnamon, and nut- meg, sugar and 3pats of butter, put all in pie crust and cooked at 350degrees until golden brown.
A place to barn dance is set up under the stars. The singing folks from around the area are stars stopping in to sing for their supper and meet the guests.
Tiny's iPhone rang. He took it out of his back pocket, seeing who it was he smiled."Thanks again for drawing in a big crowd last night."
Kenny said, "Glad to do it for you. They are always itching to do something and I thought this would keep everyone busy. Doing what they love to do best- play music."
Kenny told Tiny, "Your reporter sure knows how to get people to come to these barbecues?"
We are smoking up a storm this weekend, were going to have turkey, ham and smoked mullet, pulled pork also. With all the trimmings to go with it. The ranch is having the rodeo benefit here on the ranch, so come on out and bring everyone you know to participate, and just have fun. There will be a meet and greet after the rodeo so be sure and stop by to get your autograph.
Spending another lazy weekend here on the ranch away from the hustle and bustle of the road? Jack spoke up, saying that's a wonderful idea. I haven't had one of those days in what seems like forever. He replied and knowing you, I know you wouldn't have it any other way. Snickering.
Where did you pop in from Jack a week early? In early because of the hurricane threats Oh!
I admitted to both I was living my dream right now but it would be over soon and I would be back out on the road again. Being a roving reporter had its perks sometimes.
Kenny hugged me and said,"It was nice seeing you again Country." He then turned to Jake, "Catch you later. I'm flying back to Nashville in the morning."
"Safe travel, Kenny," Jake said.
"Thanks, bye."
Later Jake said,"Good night Country. Thanks for a great dinner."
I have enjoyed myself and as soon as I go see a few more people then I am calling it a night too.
