HAPPY DAYS at the Corner Store

by June Sargent

With pennies saved we'd run and run
To buy our little treats
So many choices -- Mary Janes
And Squirrel Nuts so sweet
With jars of pickles - oh so sour
We'd pucker for a week
Good Humor ice cream bars in hand
And Devil Dogs and chips
We'd read the brand new comic books
All lined up on the shelf
Was Superman the best or what?
Well, maybe Batman, too
Those simple pleasures meant a lot
Perhaps to us alone
For generations come and go
And each will have their own -
Happy Days
