A chapter in the book Family 6

I Just Discovered

by Barb Hensongispsaca

Failure Contest Winner
after sixteen long hard years
you finally called me
a failure

I began to think that I was
long before you arrived at
your revelation

while you worked
I slaved for you
for us
to prove myself to you
to me

I cooked for you
cleaned for you
hauled in wood
so that we could survive
through the harsh winter

through life

I spent so many nights
while you were gone for work
trying to survive
keeping control of life's problems

now you call me a failure
because I can't keep up
because I'm old
because I'm tired
I really don't know why

I have not failed you
I have failed

for allowing myself
to believe

I have demonstrated
my strengths
over and
every day I spent with you
even in all the little things I did
just to see you smile

I gave you everything
but still you see me
as a failure

I walk away
I walk away with my pride

I am not a failure
