The Last days of winter

by Sandra du Plessis

THE LAST DAYS OF WINTER

I always loved the cold weather above the heat of summer. This winter was colder than any other of the past three years. We reached the halfway mark more than four weeks ago and we are closer to the end of winter.

It does not snow often here, in South Africa, except in the mountains surrounding our town from time to time, and my disappointment is evident that after enduring this cold weather, I would like to see some snow for a change. The last snowfall was four years ago.

We have approximately thirty five days of winter left. Our chances of getting snow this year are slim. The weather report predicted snow overnight, and started to rain here, an unusual thunderstorm for this time of year broke out.

Suddenly it sounds like it started to hail. I looked out the window, it is ice rain, it usually forgoes snowfall around here, and I am very excited now.

"Yippee! It seems we are going to get snow before the end of winter. It is getting late, and I get into my warm bed for now. I hope it will start snowing during the night and that we will wake up to a snowy white wonderland."
