A chapter in the book Love Parts 2

Tonight I Dance Alone

by Barb Hensongispsaca

My Love
I remember the first time
you held me in your arms
as we danced
after the school's homecoming game
where we lost...badly.

Then you took me to the school prom
where you held me even closer
and as we danced slower
I could feel your breath
warm my neck.

Our wedding dance was one of pure joy
as you and I seemed to float
on angels wings
my feet never touching the ground
as you looked into my face...
and smiled.

Each anniversary dance
commemorating another year
of total wedded bliss
was a celebration
I looked forward to.

I watched as you tried to teach our daughter
the fine art of not stepping on her dates toes,
then
as we danced
you stepped on mine.

The day came
when I watched
as you danced our daughter
into the waiting arms
of her new husband,
then danced with me our parent's dance
as I cried silently on your shoulder.

Then came the dance of total destruction
as you held me so tight
to keep me from falling
as you told me of the doctor's visit...
and his words.

Tonight
we have our final dance
to music only we can hear
as I sit on the side of your bed
and hold you close.

Wait for me at the gates of heaven
for I will meet you there
to take your hand
as we dance for all eternity
in each others arms.

I release you
my Love
even though my heart breaks
for today you dance with angels
and tonight I dance alone.
