That Other Phrase

by kiwisteveh

So, 'At the beach'? I'm sure you meant
that other phrase:
It's 'On The Beach' you should have sent;
in bygone days,
this was a tale of war and love,
a world destroyed by bombs above.
Those words still set the mind ablaze -
that other phrase.

When man is on destruction bent,
no sense outweighs
the urge that is within him pent;
it's like a craze.
A favourite author, Nevil Shute,
you penned this tale, you little beaut!
Within my mind the title stays -
that other phrase!

Recognized

The poem refers to the novel 'On the beach' by Nevil Shute, subsequently made into a movie. Also a little Aussie slang - you little beaut - as an allusion to the setting of the book.

For once I was around on a Sunday morning (NZ time) when the topic popped up. You may read that as 'my wife had an extra long sleep-in and so I was left to my own devices.' This took about ten minutes to write plus a few more to track down a picture and get the while thing posted...
