Little Big Pig

by Lisa Deverick

There once was a piglet who was smaller than small
The runt of the litter- he was born in a stall
His mom would not feed him, she pushed him aside
Cold and alone he shivered and cried

He was so hungry he could not sleep
All he could do was lay there and weep
His cries were heard from across the farm
To Mama Dog's ears sensing his harm

She found him quickly and picked him up
She laid him gently next to her pups
She loved him and fed him and called him her own
He snuggled beside her- no longer alone

I am too small he worried out loud
Fear not my son, of you I am proud
I love you little, I love you big
I love you always Little Pig

Month after month with love and much fun
Puppies and piglet together as one
Chasing their tails, always ready for play
Digging in mud and laughing all day

Mama Dog loved Little Pig like her own
He played with her pups until he was grown
They were a family -five dogs and a pig
In no time at all he was bigger than big

I am too big he worried out loud
Fear not my son, of you I am proud
I love you little, I love you big
I love you always Little Pig

Springtime came and what did he see?
The most beautiful pig there ever could be!
Little Pig was in love- he was walking on air
Mama Dog smiled at the happy pair

A family is forever- you're always in my heart
You're my kin when we're together and when we are apart
Little Pig hugged Mama Dog and went off with his wife
To start his own family and make their new life

Little Pig's babies were born the next year
Five little piglets ever so dear
There was one little piglet who was smaller than small
The runt of the litter she was born in a stall

And of course you know it didn't take long
For Little Pig and Mama Dog to sing her this song:
I love you little, I love you big
I love you always little pig

I wrote this for my little granddaughters this past winter to make a story out of the words I always tell them, "I love you little ,I love you big, I love you like a little pig!"
It always makes them laugh so I decided to expand on it and illustrate it too.
