A Tinkers Tale

by WintyBoy

Where have you been old man? Where have you been ?
While away on your travels, so far--faraway,
tell me old man what have you seen?
"I shall tell you young man where I have been,
and I will tell you young man what I have seen."

"I've seen rolling thunder, and weathered the storm,
I never took shelter since the day I was born;
I just had to know, I searched here and there,
for there's nothing down here! No nothing - nowhere."

"I've seen through the lies, and witnessed deceit,
in this once mighty nation, where heroes now creep.
I've walked all the highways, from the crossroads of hell,
and met many strangers with a story to tell."

"I've fought with my demons in the bottomless pit,
and stood atop mountains, crossing deserts as well.
I've suffered from hunger, and suffered great thirst,
alone in my cave, like a leper with bell."

"I've supped from the chalice the devil's brew,
and shared out the powder with the woman I knew.
We rode upon moonbeams upon a white mare,
where the moon casts no shadows, in the forest of despair."

"And, though my heart was pounding, in the howling wind,
crawling through the stinking mire, I saw that I had sinned.
Yes! And skipped along on morning-dew, no footsteps left behind,
searching for a rainbow--a pot of gold to find."

"I was rescued by a mermaid-- while drowning in the deep,
and when the mists of time did clear, this wretched man did weep.
"Yes, I've been a thousand miles north-west of nowhere,
in the blink of a dead man's eye."

"So! In answer to your question, I advise that you take care,
for I've been just where you're going:
I'm coming back from there" !!!

An alternative ending:- " Does that answer your question? Or does it not?"
The tinker is myself, as is the old man, and the boy:- A questioning little pest.
