Liberated

by GregoryCody

Light shines crooked through dusty glass--stale curtains yanked taut,

Illuminating thoughts discarded long ago--empty echoes

Break first tears, as I sit before my father's last breath

Ever stoic, never bending, his eyes catch fear, he knows I am here

Regret stole his passion, bound reckless fists, silenced an

Angry tongue, leaving room to repent upon a nearly orphaned son

Taking his thin hand in mine, the emotion is unknown to me

Ever draining anger, sorrow touches my hate, released to rest

Determined to forgive...I swear never to remember again
