a place of enigma
the Avenue des Champs Elysees
grand old city
Monet at Musee d'Orsay
soupe a l'oignon at Pied de Couchon in the wee hours of the morning
get an eyeful
from the Tower decks
a hunchback looking darkly down from gargoyles on the Notre Dame
knitting cardies in the Place del la Concorde as royal heads drop in baskets
watching Nazis goosestep under the Arc de Triomphe as the home of liberté, égalité, fraternité is overrun
dive for safety at the Stad de France as bombs explode a friendly
between 'Germany' and France
cower on the floor as gun-fire bursts destroy the peace at Le Petit Cambodge
shiver with fear as gunmen threaten lives at the Bataclan
City of Light - la Ville des Lumières
grenades, bombs, and flowered gunfire
City of Love - ville de l'amour
gather your loved ones from the streets, the restaurants, the concert halls
for the city
has bled again
liberty bathed the streets in revolutionary blood
equality struggles with human differences
fraternity is fleeting among the traumatised
will bathe in Spring's sunshine once again
tourists will come
this enigmatic place
