A chapter in the book Creepy Poems
Pagan Path

This path into the woods looked like a path of ancient bearing to me. I thought of the old druid and celtic tales that carried connotations of good as well as evil, depending on how you looked at it. Therefore, I used the word "pagan" to describe it, because that word carries dual inferences. Most think of the word as "non-christian", and I gave that meaning some play here. But the word derives from the Latin "pagus", meaning "of the country" (as we might say, "out in the boondocks"). I intended that meaning too. So here is the poem my photograph inspired.
