Dedicated to my daughter

All The Kids Still Talk About

by JPilcher

Some will never remember the girl they mocked,
the one who wasn't that mean girl back
'cause she did her best
to do what she was taught.
Practically incapable of being cruel.

They also won't recall those school walls,
to be the ones she had once been pushed against,
for no logical reason
(obviously).
That parking lot still a parking lot to everyone but us.

That lot on school property,
never to be mistaken as a safe place again,
not for my kid.
It will forever be where rocks were thrown at my daughter,
and everyone knew but her parents.

But by the time I discovered what us mothers most fear,
that girl was long gone,
already moved on.
Back on her path of becoming that somebody someday,
while I became angrier by the second.

So with her busy still chugging along,
I set out to show everyone who practically begged to see it,
just exactly how pissed off I was.
That child didn't look back not once, which was good
'cause mommy, she got a little ugly.

Senior in high school now still well on her way
to becoming somebody someday.
The girl all the kids will still talk about,
after school from the second they walk in,
just like my daughter did.

They'll be non-stop talking about her, that girl
who grew up and became their favorite art teacher ever.
