Salamander Creek

by Clockwise

The boys fought the cold war,
Down in Salamander Creek;
Shooting at the Russians,
In a game of hide and seek.
Floating in a makeshift boat:
A coffin's shipping crate,
With cherry bombs and BB guns,
And worms they dug for bait.
They rode their bikes for miles,
Just to buy some bubble gum,
Then walked beneath the power lines,
To hear their eerie hum.
The sun stripes they acquired,
Tattooed their slim physique,
'Twas summer's only purpose,
Down in Salamander Creek.
Huck and Finn had nothin'
On good ole Frank and Jake,
Building an old plywood fort,
And swimming in the lake
The fires that they started,
And girls they got to peek
Still live inside the August breeze,
On Salamander Creek.
