Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
A friend's journey.

My life in a small shoebox.

by royowen

So many are the ponderings,
reflections of my mind;
Those cruel, captive, ghostly dreams,
I've since left far behind.

I've ventured through those portals broad,
some pathways forged by thought,
In mind's wayfaring wanderings,
creation's soul was caught.

My life was like a one night lark
that's captured on a scroll,
or entrance to a puppet show,
as payment for life's toll.

I've danced upon this box of dreams-
time grasped and then contained,
As if this is the sum of life,
its beauty spoiled and stained.

My joys, my tears and suffering,
now sealed within this box,
faith's heaven favours all who'll come
releasing fettered locks.

When recently holidaying in Europe we stayed with dear friends in Germany. We have visited them many times over the years. Very hospitable and generous.
Both this couple's parents had passed on, the husband and wife friends had both been left an inheritance by their parents, the wife's was a generous inheritance, with much beautiful memorabilia, however the husband friend's inheritance was contained in a small shoebox, some family photos and Co. This poem honours those memories.
Romans 8:18 "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared to the glory which shall be revealed in us." KJV.
