Just another word.

Freedom's like...

by royowen

Our freedom's like a gust of wind
that clears the footprint's brand;
Though showers come in summer's heat
rains vanish as through sand.

A whirlwind lifts and swirls the dust
and dumps it who knows where,
Then sometimes springtime hides its face
it laughs and doesn't care.

Now if you see illusion's wraith
you'll know just what I mean;
and like a cloud caught in a storm
a ghostly coloured sheen.

I do believe that freedom's bought
with blood, a cross, a thorn.
absolved am I from guilt and shame;
my peace from chaos torn.

Now freedom's just another word,
unless it's bought not won.
One must surrender life for death,
as Jesus Christ has done.

In 1970 Janis Joplin recorded a song written by Chris Christofferson called "Me and Bobby Mcgee". There is a line, "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose."
I could never agree with that. The freedom of black slaves for instance, in the Civil War, was won at the great cost of over 600,000 lives.
Christ gave up His life to rescue millions from sin's judgement. Grace is free, but came at great cost!
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own,you were bought at a price, therefore glorify God in your body." NIV
! Corinthians 7:23a "You were bought with a price; don't become slaves of human masters." NIV
