A Glimpse of Love
A glimpse of love reminds me why I smile.
The traces of affection in her ways.
I love her confidence, her special style;
her cleverness and witty turn of phrase.
I find myself in awe of my own choices.
I picked this wondrous woman for my wife.
Despite the glut of disapproving voices,
instead of condemnation, I got life.
I catch her looking at me while I'm dressing.
I know she's thinking I've put on some weight.
My darling, you are such a husband's blessing,
to care so much about my present state.
Long since the fires of passion extinguished,
she lets me rub her neck, her hassled feet.
Thinks public shows of love undistinguished.
Her care for other's feelings is so sweet.
Our love has mellowed like an ageing wine.
O'er time I've been allowed to think, to grow.
No longer left to wither on the vine,
I get to speak and offer what I know.
A glimpse of love reminds me what I've done.
Five decades we've persisted with our pairing.
Life's often overcast before the sun.
It's good reflecting on a life worth sharing.
