I escape to a rendezvous with the hills
where ambient clouds waltz in the sky
wrap myself in heart's needed pause
looked up, awed and subtly calmed
near weightless, 'til I hear my soul sigh

I need a communion with the woods
Creator's earthly sacrament to share
as songbirds in shady trees softly sing
thrive free in gentle happiness there

I draw in a deep breath of pristine mountain air
to sweep all weariness and daily cares away
a retreat to solemn solitude and silence
beneath gleaming stars I can silently pray

I bow to sacred sanctuary of far off mountain peak
the sprawling forest as cathedral and shrine
where I can hear Heaven's echo resound within me
beneath a benevolently obliging pine
