Shadows of Shame

Shadows of Shame

I stand in shadows seeking you, for mine is secret shame.
I stowed away your treasured trust, then sullied precious name.
The dream became a nightmare that no tonic e'er could cure -
no sleeping potion, prayer or plea could soften his allure.

He took me, and I've lost you, for your light is blinding bright,
and though I seek to find you, I must always dwell in night!
I dare not share this poison - he's imprisoned me to lust,
and if I try to leave him, even hope might turn to dust.

I stand in shadows seeking you, for mine is secret shame.
If only I had learned in time that lust is not the same -
too late I understand that you were always my best friend,
but still I look to find you, for I cannot let this end!

Though dignity has suffered, and I know I'll burn in hell,
I'll bear the burden gladly just to know that you are well...
Forgiveness is a lot to ask, but still I can't resist -
one word from you and I will know that Heaven does exist.

How realistic is romance when it is always perfection? How often do we walk a dark path on our way to that one pure love... (or would we ever admit our mistakes...)

How seldom it is that we find true love!
