Twelfth Station

Slowly They Walked Back To The City

Slowly they walked back to the city.
Wonder written on the faces surely.
What they had just seen is mystery.
That now becomes the central story.

That Jesus went to the Father in heaven,
That they had seen, but still uncertain.
What is to be done now for the mission?
That mission now so newly given.

Did not Jesus just tell them to go?
All the world must come to behold.
What is this call to be realized?
Without Jesus leading us to guide?

So slowly the disciples return.
To the upper room of Jerusalem to be home.
Here to wait as Jesus had said,
For the One He will to them send.

Days pass within the room.
Fear building for the coming festive time.
Soon will be the feast of Pentecost,
Will the leaders then make their assault?

Days pass in prayer with fear so high.
Then Peter rises, to say it is time.
"To complete what the scriptures said, one betrayed.
Also the scripture states his place to replace."

So they all select from the group two,
Who walked with Jesus from Baptism till now.
Joseph and Matthias come forth to draw,
The lots that will answer the prayer sent to God.

The lot falls upon one to be an Apostle,
Matthias is chosen to replace Judas.
Now Peter comes to lay hands upon him,
Followed by the other ten Apostles to anoint him.

So the twelve tribes have pillars.
Formed to be the heralds of the newly found mission.
Founded now in the Upper Room,
Under the Head, Peter the vote of God issued.

The election of St. Matthias to replace Judas as an Apostle of Jesus took place during these days between the Ascension of Jesus and Pentecost.
