due to a big earthquake.

were reduced to rubble

People say many have cracks,
and could still collapse.
Some buildings nearby at
other world heritage sites
have also been damaged.

Nepal had lost several such monuments
during a major earthquake in 1934.

The airport is also damaged,
which could hamper relief operations.

Many died and
this number could rise,
after the rubble is cleared.

Villages around have been
flattened into plates of misery.
Nobody knows how many
lives this took.
