A Fond Memory

The Life He Almost Lived Contest Winner
There once was a man who was loved,
by all who knew him, that's true.
He believed and served the Great Man above,
but fell to the bottle and brew.

A great man he could certainly have been,
he had a heart of pure gold,
His imagination was the best I've ever seen,
but died before he was old.

He was my father, my muse and my heart,
He was always there at my need,
He fought the demons that tore him apart,
but lost it one night in DTs.

My sister and I stood by as he passed,
singing a hymn tenderly,
Great he could have been, affections amassed,
but now he's a fond memory.
