The Pure Joy Of Writing

by michaelcahill

what makes you happy? Contest Winner

Alliteration celebration calls
my pen to scribe a vast array today.
I must ensure that every rhyme enthralls
to captivate you by my deft display.

Perhaps your eyes will follow my enjambment,
and catch a line that's feminine in style.
There's power in my deadly skilled entrapment--
you'll wish to leave, but plan to stay awhile.

A blaze can burn or symbolize true love.
A shadow could be death that stalks your soul.
Or maybe rainclouds never cry above,
or share your tears and help to make you whole.

These words may come out brilliant or be sappy,
it often is a puzzle to engage.
You ask me what it is that makes me happy?
It's writing all these words upon this page!
