A chapter in the book Seeing Behind the Eyes

Burlap and Cashmere

by TAB_that's me

As different as burlap and cashmere,
Marlys and Ron
like hot oil and water,
spark.

Ron, a wild lion, half-tamed
and seldom bathed,
smells of cheap beer and cigarettes
more often than sweat.
Thought he won the woman-lottery;
he wouldn't have to work.

How fun it must be to do
lion tricks
when the tamer cracks her whip.

'round and 'round
they go like dogs
chasing tails.
Does it ever stop? I don't know.

Marlys and her money;
won't buy shoes to fit.
Tells Ron, no beer for you
an ice cream cone will do.

No, not cashmere and burlap
spandex and flannel, is more likely, I'd guess.

Recognized

I've changed the names to protect the innocent (or not so innocent). :)

Marlys is in her upper 70's, Ron is about 60 or so (but looks old). He has been in prison. They are quite an unlikely pair. You should hear their constant bickering when they are in my store. I can't imagine what it is like at their home. They've been living together for a few years since her husband died. I think she likes having a handy man and of course he likes the money, so maybe they are perfect for each other.
