Gabriel the Goat

by LoannaLois

Gabriel Ray was a handsome young goat
his beard and red hat looking rad...
but he was a mean little fellow at best.
That Gabe was a naughty young lad.

Gabriel jumped like a frog from a pond;
he loved showing off in the field.
He ran and he strutted then butted his friends
'til they were all scared not to yield.

Gabe was a show-off; his head growing large.
His friends all decided "enough".
They all got together and hid Gabe's red hat.
He loved it above all his stuff.

On tip-toe they were...not to bother young Gabe
who was napping out under the tree.
They laughed and they snickered for they couldn't wait.
All his friends were just watching with glee.

Gabriel woke to the sun beating down
as his little goat head wasn't covered.
And then to his utter surprise and unease
his hat wasn't there, he discovered.

There was a reason that Gabe wore a hat.
But that was a fact no one knew.
Gabe had a scar from an early event,
so he didn't quite know what to do.

All his friends noticed the scar, now exposed.
They all felt so bad they could cry.
So Sammy, the leader, went after his hat
and gave it back, telling him why.

Gabriel, you have a scar, now we know
but each of us has something, too!
You treat us like you never like us at all.
Once hurt, we all tried to hurt you!

Gabriel turned with his hat on his head
and looked at his friends; now anew.
He said,"Gee, I'm sorry...I know I was wrong."
The group knew what they had to do.

The goats, in red hats, came to Gabriel.
They welcomed him into their clan.
Everyone said they would now all be pals
With teams formed to play "kick- the- can".
