Somewhere over the rainbow...

Chasin' Rainbows

What if? Contest Winner

A fevered stare, sweat on brow
Stands the Captain at the prow
"Onward lads we're not done yet
Trim that sail, the course is set"

Sailed the seas around the globe
Through jungles have the pirates probed
Desert wastelands saw their feet
With no water or food to eat

But now the prize will soon be theirs
Enough gold to soothe their cares
Thirst and hunger will they tend
When they reach the rainbow's end

Riches there beyond belief
Worth the trouble and the grief
The map written in the sky
They'll find the gold or they'll die

Land looms on the horizon
Pirates spirits arisin'
Fast ashore the hunt begins
A fool's quest that no one wins?

Over sand, through the jungle
Past trees and something fungal
Looking, searching, colours guide
Golden glow, eyes open wide

The seven shades led them true
Many gems of different hues
Glistening coins overflow
Riches to ease anyone's woe

As his quest had not been thwarted
The Captain smiles, now rewarded
