Twelve Die For Freedom

Twelve Die For Freedom
By Sandra Stoner Mitchell

It started as a normal day for many normal folk,
Get up, get dressed, go off to work, perhaps you'll share a joke.
You have a chat and right the world, then get on with your day,
Not knowing that some men will come and take your life away.

"For what?" we ask. "Cartoons!" they say. "What right have you to draw?"
Not only that, we cannot write, or more deaths they will score.
Free speech will go if terror wins, we need to keep the faith,
And only then is justice done, and our free will is safe.

The more we fight
Preserving right
More innocents they kill.
They target those
And then dispose
Our death gives them a thrill.

The world must rise and let them know that terror has no friend,
We cannot bow to those who kill, we must remove this trend.
Whatever name we call our God, in truth He is the same,
And God does not condone this war, His name is not to blame.

The Twelve who died, are heroes now, the killers lost this fight,
And every woman, man and child, will rally in their might.
For all of those who think they'll die in glory and be praised
"Know this--The Devil's pits are waiting, and you will be razed!"

We must unite
To end this fight
Let peace again reign free.
Perhaps one day
If we all pray
That is the way 'twill be.

We cannot let this go on, we can fight with our pens. This was written after Dawn sent out her challenge, it was my pleasure to be a part of it.
