As the title says...

The Rondeau

Rondeau Poetry Contest Winner 


The Rondeau is a tricky beast,
you'll need a dozen rhymes at least,
and then a catchy wee refrain
(the first half of line one again)
to bubble just like baker's yeast.

I hope the entries have increased
and all the rules will be policed
to reimburse the bloody pain
the Rondeau is.

Perhaps a guru or a priest
may gift me, when my forehead's creased,
ingenious legerdemain
to stir the soul and tease the brain.
A witty, warbling verbal feast,
the Rondeau is.

Writing Prompt
A rondeau poem is required for this contest. It is a fixed form of poetry. It is often used in light or witty poems. It often has fifteen octo - or decasyllabic lines with three stanzas. It usually only has two rhymes used in the poem. A word or words from the first part of the first line are used as a refrain ending the second and third stanzas. The rhyme scheme is aabba aabR aabbaR. See an example and instructions here.
