Shakespearean Sonnet

The Savage Thief

by kiwisteveh

Write a Shakespearean Sonnet II. Contest Winner

O, Time, you savage thief of all that's fresh,
Despoiler of the young, the good, the new,
You ravager of sinew, bone and flesh,
Look on your conquest, see the harm you do.

This face that once drew love's a mottled mask,
My golden locks you've thinned and turned to grey,
These limbs that played, now shake at ev'ry task;
A silver voice that sang, now fades away.

No warrior can better such a foe;
Your victory's complete, or so it seems;
But though this body's frail and full of woe,
I offer reinforcements -- hopes and dreams.

I'll be no slave to drag behind your cart -
There beats, within my chest, a young man's heart.

My ECG still zooms right off the chart!
