Saving Jill

by JPilcher

For far too many of my years,
All spent drowning in my tears.
My head it was not clear,
I was alive but living in fear.

I was angry not upset.
Memories too painful to forget.
A life of nothing but despair,
Clueless how I even got there.

Ready to give up ready to drown,
A lifetime of being beyond worn down.
I once had longed to be free,
There was just no hope left in me.

I was once the girl who wanted to fly.
Left broken now grown and wanting to die.
Unsure how long I would be able to go on.
But I was already just as good as gone.

What a horrific place for anyone to be,
No one even capable of saving me.
But because one has to save oneself,
That's why I set out to save myself.
