My Antique Box

by Sandra Stoner-Mitchell

It really is a precious thing
My antique square-shaped box
And tucked inside there is a twirl
Of baby's golden locks

A tiny tooth, the first to fall
A tissue with his tears
And, oh how much I've loved this box
I've cared for through the years

The card he painted just for me
At school on his first day
The pride he showed to see my smile
Meant more than I could say

His first school book in which he wrote
His name across the page
And next to that he had to put
A four...which was his age

And through the years more treats were stored
A treasure trove of joy
This antique box is full of love
With memories of my boy

Too soon my boy became a man
With children of his own
So I gave him a memory box
To treasure when they've grown
