Gale Was Estatic
A chapter in the book Never Give Up ------------ part two
Peaceful Evening At Home
by country ranch writer
Background Gale was so surprised that the guys could keep a secret from her and not let even a hint slip. Even though she couldn't see this was going to be the happiest Christmas ever with the people she loved. |
Gale was still working on the tree and asked the guys, "How did you keep this from me for so long without dropping a hint? Well on second thought maybe I don't want to know," Gale said.
She was laughing and it had been a long time since her Grandpa heard her laugh. He had tears of happiness in his eye, he tried to wipe the tears away before the guys saw him.
"Gale could give us all a lesson in determination and perseverance." Rowdy said.
Gale laughed and replied,"Where would I be if I didn't?"
Mike put a protective arm around her shoulders and spoke to all of them. "I am blessed to have such a gal don't you think so guys?"
Grandpa had gone to check on dinner and asked the guys to come help him set everything up and Gale said,"What about me?"
They said, "All at once it is our turn to wait on you." Today you are our princess.
She felt so special, Grandpa gave them all directions where to put things and they all got to set down to a mighty fine meal. They were all so full they put off having desert to a later date.
Rowdy and Cord insisted on doing the dishes and asked Mike to play some more music to liven things up. When the guys finished up they joined everyone in by the fireplace. It was a beautiful sight to behold, Gale, Grandpa, Mike, Rowdy and Cord all like one big happy family enjoying themselves.
It was a happy time for all of them, even Sandy was content lying with his head in Gales lap.Mike had picked him up onto his lap he stretched out across Gale and Mike. Mike getting the heavy part, Mike said, "If I didn't know better I would swear Sandy was smiling."
Mike was trying his might to make Gales Christmas one to remember. Cord asked Mike,"Did Gale really pick out that huge tree?"
Yep Mike replied, "Of course Sandy lent a helping hand."
Cord chuckled,"I bet he did at that."Cord and Rowdy said, "They had to be heading on back they had some unfinished business to take care of."
Mike told Rowdy he would be along shortly, Rowdy said, "No doubt about it Cord our Mike here has had his head turned by a pretty gal."
They laughed as they went out the door buttoning up their jackets to ward off the cold. It was quiet after that, Mike helped Grandpa check the livestock to be sure they were out of the weather. They brought in extra loads of fire wood in case it snowed harder during the night.
Gale had hot coffee ready when they got back she served up some of the apple pie they were to full to eat earlier. Mike asked if he could have some to take home to Rowdy it was his favorite. She laughed and said okay,"He plumb forgot all about the pie, I know he loves Grandpas pies.
