Not Now

by LoannaLois

"Not now", he said, as the screen door slammed
behind him.
She wondered if her Mom was busy, too...

"Not now", Mom said, with some regret
within her.
And it is sad she didn't have a clue.

Not surprised she closed her bedroom door
and wept.
No one asked,"Could they some small thing do?"

Then Shannon wrote a few things in her notebook
closed it.
She smiled...for they really never knew...

Today at school they pushed her down the stairs
and laughed.
For Shannon, there was one thing left to do.

She turned her cell phone off and tossed it gently;
she sighed
and hated that she felt so very blue...

But when her Mom came up to see about her,
"Not now,"
she said," I've things I have to do."

Before she acted on her pain with no remorse
she prayed
then felt the arms of God bring strength anew...

And Shannon made a wise and sound decision;
she waited.
She prayed again then asked Him what to do.

Five minutes later Mom knocked on her door again
then called,
"Shannon, I was sent to talk to you."

Her father came and joined them in her bedroom;
she talked.
They told her that together, they'd get through...

"Not now" were words they wouldn't use; not ever.
Not now?
You must find time when one in need needs you.
