Remembering Woolworth

by LateBloomer

So many years ago,
To Woolworth I would go,
Especially for dollar week
To see what treasures I could seek.

Two simple sets of six
Were on top of my list --
Six tall drinking glasses --
A set of juice glasses.

My funds were scarce and low,
But I let the dollars flow.
Two dollars plus tax I paid.
A great purchase was made.

With packages in hand,
I was feeling quite grand.
I didn't stop or roam.
I rode the bus straight home.

With a smile on my face,
I found the perfect place
To display my glassware.
I felt just like a millionaire.

The years have flown-on by,
But to my own surprise,
My two-dollar purchase
Still serves its sole purpose.

The three remaining Woolworth glasses are mine. The kids can fight over the rest, but they will have to fight my three-year old granddaughter because she thinks that all the jelly-jar glasses belong to her. I wish them luck on that one.
