Randy Rat & Daisy Butterfly

Randy Rat & Daisy Butterfly

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A rowdy rodent, Randy Rat
wandered off the bustling streets,
to find a barn (without a cat!) —
chock full of tasty country treats.
Through honeysuckled meadows green;
he quickly crossed ole Crowder's Creek,
then spied a garden so pristine,
he had to stop and take a peek!
Hov'ring o'er yellow daffodils
draped in kaleidoscopic hue,
a butterfly drinking her fill
of tasty early morning dew.
“Hello there," said that Randy Rat,
“My, you're quite the little beauty.”
Poor Randy hadn't seen the cat —
(guarding gardens was her duty.)
“Hello, my fellow forest friend,”
Daisy butterfly said politely,
“but you must go, or meet your end!”
...then fluttered upon him sprightly.
“A wicked cat, Sarah Siamese,
she guards fair maiden's garden.”
Then Randy replied, quite at ease;
“Dearest Daisy, you'll beg my pardon...”
“No cat will ever make a meal
of yours truly, I assure you.
Now listen up, let's make a deal —
let me tell you just what we'll do”
“If you'll tell me where I can gain
access to maiden's humble home,
then I'll be on my way again
Please, can't you toss this dog a bone?”
“But you're a rat, and not a dog
Why, you've just said as much yourself”
With that, she fluttered to a log,
as Sarah crept with expert stealth.
Now near enough to Randy Rat
that Sara could nearly taste him,
on spring-like haunches that old cat,
felt certain she could waste him.
As fate would have it Randy rat
followed the butterfly to see,
if he could spot that pesky cat,
to set his worried mind at ease.
Sarah leaped, barely missed her mark,
went past mere inches from his head,
then got distracted by a lark,
deciding to chase it instead.
The dainty little butterfly
showed Randy Rat right to the door.
That rat let out a joyful cry,
'cause he saw cheese upon the floor.
The trap the home's fair maiden set
for catching mice and rats like him,
was sprung by Sarah who'd forget
to look down so she could see 'em.
So Randy gathered up that cheese,
made himself a very happy home.
Content there was a Siamese
that would throw a fat rat a bone.
Okay, people, please be kind (if possible, LOL) I've been challenged by a fellow member whose name shall remain anonymous (you know who you are!) to spare them any embarrassment I might cause by answering that challenge with this offering. I don't want them receiving hate mail. You understand. But be that as it may, I do not like to back down from a challenge of any sort. In fact, I always try a bit harder when challenged in such a way just to prove them wrong (please, don't get any ideas, I am not going to make a habit of writing children's or inspirational poetry).
This you have just so kindly decided to read is what I came up with. I would appreciate your opinions, however I'm not allowed to change it. It must remain as is, unless there is a blatant spelling or grammatical error, which I've been known to do quite often.
There is my "explanation". I do appreciate the time you take in reading and reviewing it for me.
