Lady luck

Midnight Gambler

by Walter L. Jones

Shovel to spade
Grass to single blade
Tall tree
Ah perfect shade

It came in thunder
A material play
Sky a bright
Quiet before the day

We walk the shadows
Of things that use to be
A burning of life
In wilder sea

Want and dreaming on a faith held tight
Reason and keeping long into the night
Touch willing
Takes flight

And we float among the good in ambers face
Keeping the lad of rue embrace
And we sigh at each fail nook
As time seeks the eternal hook

And tears fail to mark her grave
And the time is but a moment paid
We are just what life all about
A corner in the world for art

And I like the writer in stone
Call the mystic and measure death home
Last pleasure
We will no more roam

Shovel to spade
Grass to single blade
Tall tree
Ah perfect shade
