One Too Many Drinks

by Walter L. Jones

Raise the flag
Salute proud
Years of burden
Truth and lies
Good friends live and die
Me
Here I am

Sometime we understand
As the wind cries our name
Walk into the tavern
Distort on your mind
Here I am
Counting friends

Drinks upon the table
Bottle in the stand
Free as heaven
Woman on my mind
Into the darkness
We lay out soul
Staggering to freedom
Gun into the night
Knuckles cold
Old looking for a fight

Here I am
Eyes upon the corner
Pick out a new friend
Share my last drop
Stranded in her mind
Call to find gone again
Weep on a wall cold
As stone
Stoned
