Description of a dream

Happy Holidays?

by Delahay

I awoke to morning cold with frost
From the darkness of sleep which was lost
I remembered a rabbit nailed to a cross
Beneath a tree lay a baby in cloth

There were a dozen dead natives with turkey to eat
People standing in line to wash a man's feet
Children dressed as demons awaiting a treat
In the south, millions re enact a defeat

A saint lay dying while lovers gave hearts
The visions I saw were surreal and stark
Lost in the dark thinking what is the use
History changes, rearraanging the truth

A man was finding a land not lost
Natives welcomed him to their own cost
A new God forced on people who fought
Gold and silver the invaders sought

I rose from bed ready for work
The tie seemed strange banding my shirt
The woolen suit coat had no reason at all
This was a costume I couldn't recall

What are the reasons we do what we do
Is it because we have something to prove
Do we know where we're going and what is the cost
So little we've gained from all that we've lost

Who fashions our fashions, who lays out our laws
Is it someone much wiser than we are all
Have we lost the chance to make it our call
Are we all lost to reason, where did we fall

I tossed off the tie as I started to burn
Tore off my shirt as something unearned
Stopping to think on all I had learned
Turning around to my bed I returned

Forgiveness is easy if you are asked
Memories are ever part of the past
You can't rewrite, it's out of your grasp
Memories fade but your acts always last

This all came from a dream.

A few things that may seem obscure:
We use a rabbit laying chocolate eggs as a symbol of when Christ was nailed to a cross, I have a rabbit nailed to a cross. We decorate trees to celebrate the birth of Jesus, a baby in cloth, or swaddling clothes. There are no doubt others that will make people wonder.,
