A Heart so Cold

by Sandra Stoner-Mitchell

He stood and looked across the ocean blue
And then he knew just what he had to do
You took his heart, he thought you'd hold it true
But he was just a little fling for you

You laughed at him when he came to your side
And asked you, on one knee, to be his bride
In front of everyone you stole his pride
And in that moment something in him died

You told him he was just a bit of fun
And that he could not ever be the one
You didn't even see what you had done
You stole his heart then took away his sun

You didn't even care when you were told
You have no feelings--just a heart that's cold
Some say that to the devil you've been sold
And that you'll be alone when you grow old

Sometime, perhaps, true love will come your way
And then, perchance, you'll come to rue this day
