Good Plan, Bad Timing
by BethShelby
"Let's get up early and hike to Sunset Rock. What do you think about that for a romantic idea?"
Dave's suggestion delighted Marla. "Oh, yes! Let's do it. It is such a pretty place. I'll bring some sweet rolls and hot chocolate, and we'll eat breakfast as the sun the comes up."
"Why don't you phone me around five in the morning in case my alarm clock doesn't go off? We want to be there before it starts to get light."
After stumbling over stones strewn about the path while trying to hike in the dark, the pair sat shivering in semi-darkness for three hours, Dave suddenly pounded his forehead with his palm. Light had dawned, but it wasn't sunlight. There was a reason this spot was named Sunset Rock. The sun didn't cast its shadows on the west side of the mountain until 10 a.m.
