This work has reached the exceptional level
Some roads take awhile

Slow Reckonings

by LadyCasmir

A chill runs down my crooked spine
As late thoughts veer to you,
A vestige, long lost love of mine
Of cold nights we fought through.

I shiver from youth's ground assaults;
The damage we packed in.
How we then slapped on layered coats
Before we reached the end.

Now arcing arms do not reside
Around our braided breasts,
But limply hang on either side
Though they are not at rest.

Such restless nights, oh, bane of mine,
Hearts straining to atone
Do not negate how there are times
We must walk roads alone.
